Here are some pictures taken during our day of rehearsals as part of Wirksworth Festival 2007. Regular WACO members form the majority of the Wirksworth Festival Orchestra, but this year we were delighted that a lot of new players came to join us and be a part of the event. We particularly welcome the younger members, and those who had travelled a long distance to take part (some from as far afield as Kent!).

We played a variety of different pieces during the day (a full list can be found
here), and performed most of them at a teatime concert for friends, family and members of the community. The whole day was a tremendous success; we're already looking forward to next year!

The full ensemble, over 60-strong on the day.
Hard at work - Richard Laing directing the orchestra, and David Francis leading.
Most of the first violins, the flutes, the cellos, the harp and double bass, and the most of the brass, woodwind and percussion sections.
A view across the orchestra - violas, second violins and most of the woodwind section.
The violins having a rest while the brass and woodwind polish up a tricky section.
Second violins, bassoons, trombones and the percussion in the background.
Richard working hard ...
... and taking a well-earned ovation at the end of the evening performance. Well done, everyone!

With thanks to Dave Brown and Liz Rowbottom for the original images.
