Wirksworth Area Community Orchestra (WACO) was established in September 1983, and has been active ever since. We are a group of 30+ people who enjoy making music in the company of like-minded folk, currently rehearsing in the Parish Rooms, St. Mary's Gate (next door to St. Mary's Church) in Wirksworth, Derbyshire. We have full orchestra rehearsals every other Thursday during term time, with String or Wind/Brass sectional rehearsals on some alternate Thursdays.
We play a wide variety of music, from classical to modern, including music from shows and the big screen. At least once a term we put on an informal concert at a local venue, often joining with other local musicians or groups. Our aim is to provide an opportunity for people of all ages and musical standards to participate and enjoy themselves within an orchestral ensemble.

Our recent concert as part of Ashbourne Festival was a great success - thanks to Linda Perry Smith for a wonderful performance, and well done to all the orchestra members and friends who joined us for the evening!
CANCELLATION: We will no longer be rehearsing at Carsington Water on 22nd July 2010. However, there may be another informal event organised for the orchestra and friends that evening - watch this space.

The orchestra has recently been awarded four grants to allow us to continue and improve our activities and facilities over the coming months. Our grateful thanks go to the Derbyshire Community Foundation, Derbyshire County Council, Derbyshire Dales District Council and Wirksworth Town Council for their generous support.
